Interview to SkenarioLabs’ CSO Timo Valsi about Portfolio Day 2019 with innogy Innovation Hub & other fascinating startups!

Last week, our CEO Topi Tiihonen and CSO Timo Valsi attended innogy Portfolio Day 2019. What is Portfolio Day? It’s a place where all the innogy Innovation Hub’s portfolio companies meet and network together.

innogy Innovation Hub is a Venture Capital Accelerator and aims to innovate energy to unlock a smart, responsible and people-powered future. The company is headquartered in Berlin, with teams across Europe including in London, Warsaw and Essen, as well as offices in California (Silicon Valley) and Israel (Tel Aviv)  and it’s funded by innogy SE, a leading German energy company.

We are proud to be part of innogy’ portfolio companies and thus, we were very much looking forward to attending this day! We’ve interviewed our CSO, Timo Valsi, to gain a better insight of that day.

What was your highlight session or event at Portfolio Day 2019?

Meeting and socializing with the other innogy portfolio start-ups and hearing more from innogy’s team and their support. Sharing experiences and seeking cooperation opportunities with other portfolio companies. Meeting with potential customers, business partners, innogy’s team and other start-ups.

What was your number one key learning?

innogy has a wide array of help and services available for the companies it has invested in. Regardless of the uniqueness of our solutions, the challenges we start-ups face are often in many ways surprisingly similar.

What would you tell someone who has never been to Portfolio Day 2019?

It is a good way to get to know and keep in touch with the industry specialists from startups or part of the innogy team. Meeting with potential customers or becoming yourself a potential customer for the startups.

What was your overall experience at Portfolio Day 2019?

Very positive with many great discussions. I liked the contrast between the old coal mine surroundings from the Industrial revolution compared to the drive and innovativeness of the startups attending the event. Moreover, Spring has advanced further in Germany than in Finland so it was a beautiful sunny day to be out.

That’s it for now. However, if you would still like to know more about the Portfolio Day or innogy Innovation Hub, don’t hesitate to contact our CSO Timo Valsi at timo@skenariolabs.com!
